What If I Want To Block My Information From Reverse Phone Number Lookup?
Have you heard about the new technology out there today that allows people to search for contact information based off a phone number? It is simply the opposite of a phone book and it is called reverse phone number lookup. Anyone can go on the internet, enter a phone number and get the contact information associated with the number. It does not seem like that big of a deal when you are the one doing the searching for contact information. However, what if you are on the other end of it? For a lot of people, this tool seems like an invasion of privacy. They feel it would be great to opt out of this, yet wonder if it is even possible.
According to sources, it really depends on the site. You have to request that your information is removed from the sites. Some are easier than others. Google, for example has a simple procedure to get your name removed, while White Pages is more difficult. The root of the problem lies in the fact that these companies obtain data from public records. And, by law you cannot remove your information from public records. So, for now if you want to remove your name from the lists, you will have to do it with each individual service.
